Job description: Job SummaryHEAD OF BUYING (Sports Apparel) – Western Cape, SAHighly Competitive Package on Offer!Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for clothing retail and / or retail and sports?Do you have an eye for spotting trends and a knack for driving profitability through smart buying decisions, if so, then this role is for you!Our Client, a highly reputable Global Retailer is in search of an experienced, seasoned and dynamic Head of Buying to join their forward-thinking and innovative buying team!As Head of Buying, you will lead the buying function across multiple product categories as well as develop and execute sourcing strategies that align with the company’s vision and goals.You will also work closely with the merchandising, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure our product range is competitive, on-trend, and delivers maximum profit.Key Requirements:Leadership & Team Management:Proven experience in leading and managing a large, high-performing team, including Senior Buying Managers.Strong ability to drive performance, develop talent, and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.Portfolio & Business Management:Must have experience managing a significant retail portfolio.Product & Brand Expertise:Extensive experience gained in Own Brands would be advantageous.Strong understanding of the complexities and challenges associated with Own Brands, including product development, supply chain management, and competitive positioning.Branded experience advantageous.Industry & Market Knowledge:A deep understanding of consumer trends, competitive landscape, and retail dynamics within the African market.Supplier & Stakeholder Management:Proven track record in supplier negotiations, relationship management, and procurement strategy.Ability to develop and maintain strong partnerships with key suppliers and manufacturers.Qualifications and Experience:Post Graduate Degree with 10+ relevant clothing or sports apparel retail experience gainedMinimum 3 years working experience on a large sized portfolio as a Head of Buying which includes the direct leading of senior managers and indirectly their teamsMinimum 10-15 years relevant buying / merchandise experience is essentialExceptional and proven leadership skills incl. the ability to attract, hire, retain and motivate assigned team members and talent poolProven track record in building and maintaining strategic supplier relationshipsProven track record and ability to drive a merchandise strategy by demonstrating innovative and creative thinkingDemonstrate experience of leading a purchasing function with a proven track record in strategic purchasing leadership delivering effective purchasing strategiesAbility to drive change, persuade and influence both internal and external stakeholders (often without direct authority)Demonstrate a high level of maturity, emotional intelligence and insight into diverse teams and individualsAbility to work well under pressure and deliver to aggressive deadlines, incl. problem solving.Exceptional analytical ability to effectively evaluate and drive functional KPIs, incl. sales growth, PIS, CSOH, input- and maintained margins, stock turn, clearance.Must be willing to travel extensively including internationally.Please Note: This position is in line with the company’s employment equity plan, this role is an employment equity position and open to such applications.To apply for the role, please email and updated and detailed copy of your CV to: Andrea Jones: AND Jill Cicero:Elev8Recruiter
