Job description: Job Summary Key Responsibilities:Electrical System Design G Engineering
- Develop electrical designs for utility-scale Renewable Energy power plants, including single-line diagrams (SLD’s), layout, and detailed electrical schematics.
- Specify and select electrical components, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
- Conduct electrical load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Design and integrate battery energy storage systems (BESS) where applicable.
- Perform DC and AC electrical calculations, including cable sizing, voltage drop analysis, and power factor correction.
- Optimise designs for efficiency, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
Grid connection G Compliance:
- Liaise with utilities, network operators, and regulatory bodies for grid connections approvals.
- Conduct grid impact studies and ensure compliance with national grid codes and regulations (e.g. NRS 097-2-1, Grid Code for Renewable Energy)
- Design and implement grid protection schemes and SCADA systems
- Ensure compliance with international standards such as IEC, IEEE, and South African electrical regulations (SANS).
Ǫuality Assurance G Risk Management:
- Conduct design reviews, quality checks, and technical risk assessments.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety and environmental standards in design and execution.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documentation for stakeholders.
Experience:Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Beng/BSc) or equivalent
- Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration with ECSA (or eligibility for registration)
Experience:
- 5+years of experience in electrical design engineering, specifically in utility-scale Renewable Energy projects.
- Proven experience in designing embedded generation projects with grid connection.
- Strong understanding of Renewable Energy system design, electrical balance of plant (eBOP) and power system studies.
- Experience with energy storage systems and hybrid solutions.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as DIgsSILENT,
- Powerfactory, PVSyst and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of power system analysis, relay protection and SCADA integration.
- Familiarity with South African grid codes, NRS standards and renewable energy regulations.
- Understanding of IEC, IEEE and SANS electrical standards.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
