Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Safety Officer in our Mining team, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Conduct Physical Condition Inspections: Regularly perform physical condition inspections according to a pre-determined schedule. This is critical to ensure that optimal safety performance management systems are consistently in place and adhered to.

Control and Manage Safety and Hygiene: Oversee the safety and hygiene standards in the workplace. Ensuring these standards are met across the project site is vital to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.

Ensure Workers’ Physical Visibility: Guarantee that all workers conform to the required visibility standards. Whether it’s through high-visibility clothing or other necessary gear, ensure compliance with the applicable standards for each project or operating unit.

Conduct Investigations: Perform thorough investigations into incidents, including damages, medical treatment cases (MTCs), first aid cases (FACs), near-misses, and non-conformances. This involves finalizing reports, securing relevant sign-offs, and maintaining all associated documentation.

Coordinate Emergency Drills: Plan and coordinate emergency drills ensuring that all personnel are well-prepared to handle emergency situations effectively.
- Conduct Internal Audits: Execute internal audits focused on the respective areas to identify any discrepancies and ensure compliance with established safety policies and procedures.
Academic Qualifications:
A strong educational background is essential for this role. The suitable candidate should possess the following qualifications:

National Senior Certificate: The foundational requirement for any candidate.

SAMTRAC or COMSOC 1 & 2: Essential certifications for safety professionals which demonstrate your competence in the safety management field.

National Diploma in Safety Management: This diploma ensures you have formal education and training in safety management.

OHSAS 18001 System Auditing Certificate: Training in OHSAS 18001 System Auditing or integrated internal auditing will be an added advantage. These qualifications highlight your ability to conduct systematic audits and improve safety measures.
- Legal Liability and A2: Understanding legal liability and A2 is crucial for managing compliance with laws and regulations related to workplace safety.
Experience and Requirements:

Experience: A minimum of 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience as a Safety Officer within a mining environment. This experience signifies your familiarity with the unique safety challenges and requirements in mining.

Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license (Code 8). Mobility and the ability to drive safely are necessary to perform site inspections and audits effectively.
- Passport 360: Proficiency with Passport 360, a cloud-based safety management system, is highly desired. This tool is integral for managing various safety documentation and processes efficiently.
Salary Expectation:
The role offers a competitive salary ranging from R20,000 to R35,000 per month. The final package will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, rewarding your expertise and commitment to maintaining safety standards.
