We are seeking a skilled and experienced Legal Manager to join the Office of the CEO in the Legal Department. This key role will involve providing comprehensive legal advice, managing contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, overseeing risk management, and leading litigation matters. The successful candidate will also be responsible for policy development, training, and managing legal staff within the organization.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide timely, accurate legal advice on contracts, employment law, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and more.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MOUs, SLAs, and legal letters to protect the organization’s interests.
- Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks impacting operations, reputation, and financial performance.
- Oversee litigation management, working with external counsel and stakeholders.
- Develop and update company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
- Conduct training on legal and compliance matters to promote a culture of compliance.
- Manage the legal department’s budget and ensure cost control.
- Maintain records of all signed contracts, legal matters, and reporting as required.
- Conduct legal research to support informed decision-making within the organization.
- Ensure adherence to corporate governance practices and proper controls.
- Lead and develop a team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Assist with tasks as assigned by the Company Secretary or CEO.
Minimum Requirements:
- A four-year legal degree (e.g., BJuris/BProc/BCom Law/LLB) at NQF 7 or equivalent.
- Admission as an attorney or advocate.
- 8 years post-admission experience in a similar role, including:
- 5 years in a supervisory or management position.
- 2 years in the public sector or legal services to the public sector.
- 1 year of experience in litigation and labour law.
- Valid driver’s license (Code B or C1) and own vehicle.
Skills and Attributes:
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and public sector legal frameworks.
- Strong experience in contract drafting, legal risk assessments, and employee relations matters.
- Expertise in public finance management and procurement-related legal issues.
- Exceptional time management, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.
- Ability to handle pressure, maintain confidentiality, and resolve conflicts.
- High level of professionalism, assertiveness, and computer literacy.
- Strong research and presentation skills.
Expected salary: R83000 – 99000 per year
