Job description: Our client in Brits has a vacancy for a Safety Officer with underground experience.Qualifications and experience:
- Grade 12
- Safety Management Diploma will be advantageous
- Comsoc 1 & 2 / Samtrac
- DMR Blasting certificate is a must
- Minimum 5 experience as a Safety Officer with proven record
- Underground mining experience preferably as a Shift Supervisor
- All MQA units standards for fully qualified health and safety officer working with combination of MHSA as well as OHSA
- Practical knowledge of and experience in Safety Management
- Practical knowledge of pertinent SHE legislation
- Valid drivers license and own transport
- Medically fit (must pass mine medical fitness standards)
Duties:
- Legal duties in terms of Reg 2.19.1 and 2.19.2 of the Minerals Act.
- Conduct workplace inspections and legal compliance audits.
- Compile daily and monthly Health & Safety reports.
- Incident/ Accident investigations.
- Risk Management.
- Emergency Preparedness and Management.
- Development and review of Safe Operating Procedures.
- Ensure all incidents and unsafe acts are reported.
- Provide on-the-job training.
- Assess and approve contractors’ Safety files in accordance with Contractor Management Requirements.
- Address non-conformances / compliances
- Follow through on actions, closing out reports.
- Report and record keeping not negotiable.
- Present a professional image of the SHERQ Department.
- Daily/ weekly/ monthly reports
- Medical examinations, follow ups and addressing issues that may arise.
- PPE control and management.
- Coordination of Health & Safety Reps functioning.
- Identification of training needs.
- Standby duties on rotational basis
