Solid experience in driving and transportation work in various industries in moving people, goods, or products from one place to the next according to a required schedule and driving plan. Key to the role is a solid service orientation to ensure overall support of the branches performance in supporting the delivery of products in a timely and professional manner.You may be required to assist with duties outside of your core role to support the business in driving sales and managing the debtor’s book. This could range from assisting in displays/promotions, maintaining general housekeeping to supporting with other store related activities.What you’ll doThis is a list of tasks that you will be responsible for doing on your days at work.

- Ensure the vehicle is always clean, inside and out.
- Ensure loading deck is cleared and clean to support speedy loading and deliveries.
- Review vehicle performance and provide manager with feedback to ensure that the vehicle is well maintained, and to schedule repairs and service bookings.
- Ensure that the name and telephone number of the tracking system company are available so that incidents can be reported to this number and to the Police immediately.
- Ensure that the vehicle is parked overnight at a safe place decided upon by your Manager and return the petrol card immediately upon return to the branch.
- Ensure that all merchandise being transported to and from the shop be checked by either the Stock Clerk or the Manager, making sure that the correct stock is delivered to the correct customer and ensure that the Porter safe guards the merchandise.
- Perform all the checks as listed under “Vehicle Maintenance” in the company’s vehicle handbook and log all variances of performance or appearance.
- Ensure that merchandise is properly loaded and fastened on to the vehicle.
- Clearly identify oneself and the company to the customer, manage the offloading and represent the company through supportive and friendly customer service; while ensuring the correct products are delivered.
- Assist the customer by placing the delivered merchandise correctly in the customer’s home and contact the Manager from the customer’s home if anything is incorrect to give the customer peace of mind and to manage queries.
- Support customer complaints, where they are impacted by your department toward resolution according to acceptable resolution norms.
- Escalate long outstanding issues to the BM and Regional Controller to support management of issues.
- Ensure safe working environment, through maintaining housekeeping standards, management, and adherence to risk assessments, and taking responsibility for health and safety concerns within section/department and particularly on the road.
- Follow all rules of the road and do not give lifts to strangers.
