Job description: Job Description :We’re seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of Franchising with strong business and finance acumen for a leading restaurant chain in South Africa. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position and the right candidate would be based in Gauteng or willing to relocate.The successful candidate will be responsible for driving franchise growth, maintaining brand consistency, ensuring franchisee compliance, and implementing strategies to optimise business performance within the Inland region. Experience at a national senior level in sit down restaurants is essential (QSR or catering background not suitable). Experience in owning your own business preferable (best if a franchise restaurant).Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement long-term strategies to support franchise growth and operational success.
- Drive business excellence by ensuring financial and operational efficiency.
- Align inland regional franchise strategies with corporate goals.
Franchisee Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with franchisees, providing them with guidance, support, and making sure they are adhering to the brand standards and expectations.
- Act as a key point of contact, resolving franchisee concerns proactively.
Operational Excellence:
- Ensure consistent application of operational standards, brand guidelines, and customer service protocols across all inland locations.
- Monitor and drive improvements in quality, efficiency and customer experience.
- Provide leadership in conflict resolution and coach business support teams to do the same in these regions.
Franchise Growth & Expansion:
- Identify and pursue new franchise opportunities in alignment with market trends.
- Evaluate and select potential franchisees, ensuring the right fit for the brand.
- Oversee new restaurant openings, supporting a seamless launch process.
Financial Performance & Analysis:
- Monitor franchisee financial performance, providing guidance to improve profitability.
- Conduct quarterly business reviews to track key financial and operational metrics.
- Support franchisees in achieving and maintaining strong financial health.
Compliance & Brand Standards:
- Ensure that all franchise locations operate in compliance with legal requirements, brand policies, and operational guidelines.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions where necessary.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with marketing, supply chain, finance, L&D and People departments to align franchisee operations with corporate initiatives and resources.
Innovation & Growth:
- Continuously explore new ways to innovate within the franchise model, introducing new technologies or processes that can increase efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
Performance Optimisation:
- Identify areas of improvement and provide actionable recommendations to enhance overall business performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Hospitality or related field.
- 5+ years experience in a National Operations position in a sit-down restaurant.
- 5+ years of restaurant management experience, ideally within a franchising model.
- Own or owned a restaurant (preferable within franchise model).
- Strong finance and business acumen, with the ability to interpret financial statements and drive profitability.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and support teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel and POS systems, such as Pilot.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to build trust and maintain relationships with franchisees, customers and external suppliers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a charismatic and people-centric approach.
