Job description: Health, Safety and Environment Manager – Cape TownFull job descriptionPosition Summary:As a pivotal member of the Project team, the Health and Safety Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the design, engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and supply chain of wind turbine generators. The primary responsibilities of this role include:- Directing the safety team to ensure the efficient and secure delivery, installation, and commissioning of wind turbines, adhering to the project timeline and financial constraints.- Overseeing customer relationships and serving as the primary contact for addressing escalated safety concerns.- Guaranteeing the consistency and accuracy of safety reports presented to the leadership.- Actively enhancing the safety culture across the project portfolio.Key Responsibilities:**Manage Contract and Customer Relationship**- Oversee the management of contracts and cultivate strong customer relationships.- Champion zero harm culture, promoting the highest standards of safety in all operations.- Serve as the coordinator and manager for all HSE partners in the project, ensuring effective collaboration.- Ensure full compliance of all HSE activities with contractual obligations, the Project EHS Plan, and relevant policies and regulations.- Maintain positive relations with clients, consortium partners, and sub-contractors to facilitate smooth project execution.- Lead or participate in required meetings, take minutes, and manage EHS documentation and reporting.- Coordinate and prepare weekly and monthly EHS reports, providing transparent communication of safety metrics and initiatives.**Facilitate Escalation on Project Issues**- Facilitate the escalation of project issues and coordinate with internal stakeholders to address challenges that surpass the team’s capabilities.- Engage in the definition of action plans when necessary, demonstrating a proactive approach to resolving issues.**Coordinate Safety Team**- Build and lead the safety team for projects, focusing on safety and risk management.- Establish and conduct regular team meetings to discuss safety, risk management, and action plans, emphasizing continuous improvement.- Escalate any encountered roadblocks and deviations from safety standards to appropriate levels of authority.- Organize and conduct workshops with the project team as required, encouraging a learning environment that enhances safety practices.Key Performance Indicators:- Safety culture- Adherence to project requirements- Development of competences in team- Customer satisfactionRequired Experience:- Qualification in relevant field- Minimum 10 years’ experience as Health, Safety and Environment Manager on major infrastructure projects- Experience in wind industry is mandatory- Knowledge in people management and safety methods and systems- Excellent IT skills including MS Office/Sharepoint- Excellent communication skills in English is essential, both verbally and writtenJob Type: Full-timePay: R600 000 – R800 000per yearApplication Question(s):Do you have any experience working in the wind industry?
