Job Title: Library Assistant (Outreach)

Job description: To serve the public by performing technical and administrative tasks in order to contribute to an
efficient and effective service delivery.
Key Responsibility Areas
- Undertakes front-line service to the public i.e. issuing, returning and renewing library
materials, photocopying, faxing, printing, accessing the Internet and attending to queries.
- Undertakes off-counter functions i.e. shelving and shelf-reading of library material, stock
take procedures, minor repairs to library materials and reporting software and equipment
faults to the supervisor.
- Undertakes community/library outreach.
- Drives allocated vehicles, ensuring that materials are properly loaded and secure and reports
any damage to equipment or infrastructure caused whilst working.
- Maintains allocated vehicles in a clean, roadworthy and functional condition.
- Undertakes clerical functions i.e. minute-taking and typing, submitting requisitions for
stationery and cleaning materials and authorisation, maintaining an inventory for furniture,
completing and filing vehicle trip sheets.
- Handles cash, float and issues receipts, cashes up balances and reconciles cash analysis
book.
- Trains staff, field work students and volunteers in routines and procedures.
- Provides relief for superiors and colleagues at the same level in their absence.

Essential Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code EC).
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- 2 Years relevant experience.
- Computer literacy.
Preferred Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) and a certificate in Library and Information Services.
- 3 years relevant experience
