Job description: Job SummaryBACKGROUNDThe successful candidate will head / lead the site supervisory team on the runway rehabilitation project at the Cape Town International Airport. The Lead Construction Engineer will carry out his/her duties under the oversight of the Lead Contracts Engineer and manage the contractual aspects of the project as the Employer’s Agent on a full-time basis on site. The duration of the project is 14 months and has an anticipated start date of 01 April 2025. The incumbent’s contract period will be aligned to the project period.SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- BSc / BTech Civil engineering Professional registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng.
- At least 10 years’ relevant experience (after obtaining professional registration), as a Contract Engineer on road / runway / taxiway rehabilitation and/or new surfaced roads.
- Administrative and human resource management experience.
- Extensive experience in the use of SAICE GCC form of contract.
- Specific experience related to construction monitoring and contract administration of surfaced roads and/or airport projects.
- Strong technical ability.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and MS Project.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills coupled with a sense of urgency and a participative management style.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently, but also as part of a dynamic team as a co-operative, collaborative and supportive team player.
- Have a keen eye for detail and work accurately under pressure.
- Deadline driven.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for leading the site supervisory personnel on an ACSA Runway Rehabilitation Project as Lead Construction Engineer and Contract Administration.
- Review of Subcontractor Tender and Quotation Documentation and tender evaluations.
- Review and finalise the Contractor’s monthly payment certificates and reporting.
- Confirm Contractor’s daily plant and equipment on site and daily production rates.
- Compilation of estimate final project costs and monthly updates.
- Project financial management and reporting.
- Construction monitoring and implementation of site construction work.
- Contract administration during construction and close out phase of project.
- Compile and/or review close out reports.
- Review as-built data and drawings.
- Dealing with contractual claims and disputes.
- Client liaison, including meetings and reporting.
- Regular liaison and reporting to the Lead Contract Engineer (Executive Manager: Transportation-Cape Town) and Project Leader.
- Manage the technical outputs of direct reports.
- Management and supervision of direct reports.
- Compliance with and managing direct reports compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (ISO9001:2015) Business Management System (BMS) and the Project Management Online Guide (PMOG).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s licence without any restrictions.
- It is a requirement of this appointment to work during the evening and early morning hours (21h00 to 05h30) noting that a typical working week will consist of 6 working shifts.
