Job description: Foundation Phase teacher -afternoons – Cape TownFull job descriptionSense Education is hiring an English speaking Foundation Phase teacher. The applicant must be based in Cape Town, preferably between the West Coast and Northern Suburbs area.Sense Education offers English and Mathematics lessons for children in Grade R to 3 in small groups. We serve as an extension of what the children are learning at school. The classes challenge a variety of children to learn more. Interactive and fun classes are required to boost the children’s self-confidence. Lessons are 45 minutes long taught at the school in the afternoons as an extra-mural. Our mission is to challenge children to help them reach their potential.About the roleKey responsibilities for the role:· Be punctual when delivering lessons· Deliver passionate and inspiring lessons to the children· Pack the resources needed for the lessons, which are given to you to use· Provide feedback or support to parents via email when necessary· Fetch children from the aftercare classes or from the waiting points· Look after the children who are not in aftercare and waiting for their class to start· Write up a short comment at the end of each term for a report· Attend meetings with the Sense Education team, when requested· Attend training sessions to further skills· Participate in advertising campaigns or send content for social mediaThe teacher will be given a lesson plan and all the resources to use. Before the lesson, the teacher is only required to pack all the necessary resources for each lesson and make sure the lesson is understood to be able to teach it. This is a part-time position starting immediately. Payment starts at R120 per 45 minute lesson, but goes up a slidng scale according to how many children are in the lesson. You could get R300 per lesson for eight children in a class.The ideal applicant will possess the following qualifications and skills:· An appropriate academic and professional education qualification from a recognised institution (preferably a 4 year degree in Foundation Phase).· Strong communication skills in EnglishExtra requirements· Must be available on Mondays to Fridays from 12:30 – 16:45. You will have one day free. The timeslots are different for each day of the week but will be consistent throughout the term. It is around 3 lessons a day (+-3 hours).· Have own car to travel to either Durbanville and Sandown area in Cape Town or to Century City and Burgundy.Kindly note that should you not hear back from us within two weeks of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful. The teachers shortlisted will be invited to an interview.
