Job description: Job Summary Project Engineer (Construction)Location: TasmaniaOur well established and highly reputable client is involved in civil construction projects and generally road construction projects. They are recruiting suitably skilled candidates with the relevant experience and genuine desire to reside permanently in Tasmania. Some of the projects where they also perform work are in the areas of Structures (Bridges) and occasionally Dams so your skills in working with these types of projects which would be highly advantageous.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPeople
- Demonstrate, daily, personal behaviours that are aligned to HB’s Values with a view to providing the role model for desired behaviour.
- Work as part of a team to ensure that each project is managed from a financial and commercial perspective and delivered in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
- Provide ongoing feedback, support, and motivation to all staff.
- Assess optimal workloads for individuals and manage staff resource requirements for the element of work assigned.
- Establish and maintain a harmonious and positive relationships with community and key stakeholders to assist project delivery.
- Be aware of the relevant Enterprise Agreement, the project Workplace Relations Management Plan or equivalent documentation as appropriate to the scope and scale of the project. Specifically understand employee’s rights and entitlements
TechnicalSafety & Environment
- Proactively reinforce and support company safety and environmental policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with OHS and Environmental legislative requirements to support a positive safety culture and always provide a safe workplace
- Conduct regular site safety & environment walks
- Develop, maintain, and implement the Site Environmental Management Plans or environmental aspects of Safe Work Method Statements in consultation with supervisory staff
- Ensure compliance with all company and client systems, policies and procedures and legislative requirements
- Ensure all hazards and risks are identified and effectively mitigated and encourage near miss reporting.
- Aware of trend data across the project with regards to all injuries & near misses and implement mitigation strategies
- Attend Daily Pre-Start meetings, Toolbox Talks and other site meetings as required.
- Influence site activities to ensure that we take all reasonable and practicable measures to prevent or minimise harm to people and the environment.
Quality
- Proactively support company quality policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with requirements to always deliver a quality product.
- Aware of trends with regards to NCRs & CARs across the project.
- Ensure work is delivered in accordance with the contract documentation and project specific specifications.
- Contribute to the development of ITPs and Hold Points.
- Responsible for liaising with project staff and client representation to ensure ITPs, Hold Points are witnessed and signed off and necessary Quality documentation is collated and submitted in accordance with the contract requirements.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Mark-up drawings and As-built records for the areas of work under responsibility, and the records are in accordance with the contract requirements.
- Develop and maintain a material supply register and ensure QA inspections are performed on materials received onto site.
Financial & Commercial
- Prepare monthly project cost reports and present monthly commercial status to the next level of management.
- Prepare and review strategies, (e.g., for time, resources) to maximise profit for the element of work responsible for.
- Ensure that the subcontractor & supplier agreements for the project comply with the company requirements.
- Understand the monthly Project Valuation Reporting process including principles and methods of calculating project Cost to Date and project Cost to Completion
- Application of an effective cost management system for allocated activities, cost codes or budgets:
o manage daily cost capture in consultation with the Supervisor monitor daily productivity and report against KPIso ID and cost Variation Orders for approval by the Project Managero Provide timely information to the project manager to assist in his development of monthly progress claims, accruals, and cost transfers to ensure an accurate Cost to Date and Forecast Cost to Complete for allocated Cost Codes or areas of worko Monitor subcontractor performance and produce subcontractor progress claims for the Project Manager to authoriseProgram & Procurement
- Prepare programs & ensure all parties are engaged and committed to the element of work responsible for.
- Develop and implement monitoring and reporting systems for the element responsible.
- Timely procurement of materials to meet the program, depending upon lead time of material.
- Timely approval of subcontractor and supplier progress claims for payment authorisation by the Project Manager.
Contractual
- Understand the contractual rights and obligations of both parties in respect to subcontractors and suppliers engaged on the project in the areas of responsibility.
- Completion of the contractual obligations in the time frames prescribed in the contract (e.g., submission of contract documentation, correspondence, prescribed notices) in relation to the client.
- Assist the project manager in the maintenance of the Contractual Risk and Opportunity Register which identifies control plans for the mitigation of threats and maximisation of opportunities for the allocated areas, or cost codes.
Planning
- Prepare management plans & ensure all parties are engaged and committed prior to execution
- Understands the design brief ensuring the intent is achieved (development, quality, cost, and time) for the element of work assigned
- Review the design output for constructability/buildability for the element of work responsible for
- Aware of construction budgets to ensure accurate forecasting & project performance for responsible cost codes
- Develop Forecast Cost to Complete and measure performance against this for activity codes or budgets with area of responsibility
- Assist the Project Manager in the development of client progress claims
