Job Title: Junior Safety Officer – Petrochemical

Job description: Our client is looking for a Junior Safety Officer to join their team in Johannesburg, GP. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations, conducting safety inspections, and supporting the implementation of OHS policies. This role requires a balance of fieldwork (60%) and office-based tasks (40%), with occasional standby duties on selected weekends and holidays.Responsibilities:
- Conduct and monitor safety inspections.
- Ensure compliance with South African Health and Safety regulations.
- Support the implementation and development of OHS policies and procedures.
- Identify potential hazards and risks in the workplace.
- Investigate workplace health and safety incidents.
- Conduct safety training and employee inductions.
- Maintain and update health and safety files.
- Perform risk assessments and implement preventive measures.
- Monitor and enforce the use of PPE in the workplace.
- Ensure proper storage and safety of equipment.
- Conduct drills and exercises for emergency situations.
- Report on OHS-related activities and track safety performance.
- Conduct safety audits and site visits.
- Provide guidance and act in an advisory capacity on health and safety matters.
Requirements:
- Matric (mandatory).
- SAMTRAC / NEBOSH qualification or equivalent.
- Must be a qualified Safety Officer.
- At least 2 years of experience in HSE operations, maintenance, or construction.
- Registration with SACPCMP or an equivalent health and safety body (advantageous).
- Experience in health and safety legal compliance and incident management.
- Valid drivers license and own vehicle (required for travel between sites).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 (advantageous).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
