Role Overview:
As a Senior Bookkeeper at Placement Point, you will be entrusted with a pivotal role in maintaining the financial wellbeing of our firm and our diverse client base. This role requires a seasoned professional who is adept at managing a spectrum of bookkeeping responsibilities, including but not limited to, reconciling cashbooks, handling payroll processes, and ensuring compliance with VAT regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cashbook Management: Efficiently process and reconcile cashbooks to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Customer and Supplier Reconciliation: Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately by processing and reconciling customer and supplier accounts.
- Payroll Journals: Manage and process payroll journals alongside other necessary journals with precision to ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Management Reporting: Prepare basic management reports for clients when applicable, offering clear insights and maintaining transparency.
- VAT Calculations and Filings: Prepare VAT calculations and ensure reconciliations are complete and accurate. Submission of VAT returns through e-filing systems is a critical duty.
- SARS Audits: Attend to audits from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) relating to VAT refunds, providing required documentation and clarifications promptly.
- Trouble Shooting: Exhibit a keen eye for detail and superior analytical skills to identify and resolve any discrepancies swiftly.
- Payroll Administration: Oversee all aspects of the payroll function, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current regulations.
- OID and IRP5 Processes: Manage and report on Occupational Injuries and Diseases (OID) as well as handle the mid-year and year-end IRP5 reconciliation processes.
- Client Administration: Provide comprehensive support with bookkeeping and administration for various clients, nurturing and maintaining strong professional relationships.
Reporting Structure:
You will report directly to the Accounting Manager, collaborating closely to meet strategic financial objectives and exceed client expectations.
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles essential for efficient financial management and regulatory compliance.
- Extensive experience encompassing all bookkeeping functions up to the Balance Sheet, ensuring meticulous financial tracking and management.
- Proficiency in forex transactional processing will be considered a beneficial advantage.
- Advanced understanding of VAT and related compliance requirements.
- Strong grasp of various payroll transaction types and their tax implications, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Proven experience with OID reporting and comprehensive understanding of mid-year and year-end IRP5 processes.
- A minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in diverse bookkeeping functions is required.
- Prior experience in the Auditing/Accounting Industry will be advantageous, aiding in industry-specific challenges and expectations.
