Responsibilities:
As the Accountant at Smith Garb, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Accurate Financial Records:
- Maintain comprehensive and precise financial records, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Financial Statements and Reports:
- Prepare and analyze annual financial statements using Caseware.
- Generate detailed financial reports to inform strategic decisions.
- Budget Preparation and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation and forecasting of budgets to guide business financial planning.
- Tax Compliance:
- Ensure full compliance with all tax laws and regulations.
- Independently handle and submit Income Tax, VAT, and EMP returns while managing any related tax queries.
- Audit Assistance:
- Aid in the preparation and management of audits, ensuring all financial reporting requirements are met.
- CIPC Returns:
- Submit CIPC returns and complete any associated CIPC duties as required.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform any other necessary tasks expected from the position to ensure smooth financial operations.
Requirements:
To be considered for the Accountant position at Smith Garb, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Background:
- A Degree in Accounting or Finance, along with completed articles (SAICA / SAIPA).
- Experience:
- A minimum of three years of accounting experience within an auditing or accounting practice is preferred; however, this is negotiable if articles are signed off.
- Tax Proficiency:
- Demonstrated proficiency in tax matters, with a proven track record of handling SARS queries independently. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
- Software Skills:
- Proficiency in Caseware software is a must.
- Familiarity with accounting software including Sage Evolution and Sage Accounting.
- Competence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- SARS e-Filing:
- Experience with SARS e-filing submissions and resolving related queries is crucial.
- Attention to Detail:
- A meticulous approach to work, ensuring accuracy in all financial records and submissions.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact with team members, clients, and regulators.
- Time Management:
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently, meeting deadlines consistently.
